GET TO KNOW THE GAME
What is 2048?
A move slides the whole board in one direction. Equal tiles that meet can merge into a larger number, and a successful move brings in another tile. Space gets scarce as the numbers grow. Keep a route open, make deliberate merges, and see how far a small collection of twos can take you.
How to play
- Slide the board left, right, up or down.
- Bring equal tiles together: two 2s become 4, two 4s become 8, and so on.
- Work toward 2048 while keeping space for your next move. The round ends when no moves remain.
Controls
- Keyboard
- Use the arrow keys while playing.
- Touch
- Swipe across the board, or tap the direction buttons.
- New game
- Use New Game to start over. Your best score stays saved when browser storage is available.
A few ideas for your next round
- Try keeping your largest tile near a chosen corner so the board remains easier to read.
- Leave room for smaller tiles to line up before you commit to a large merge.
- Each tile can merge once in a single move. Plan the entire row or column, not just one pair.
